DEERHURST WALTON HISTORY
Our 3 villages Apperley, Deerhurst and Deerhurst Walton lie on the banks of the
River Severn in Gloucestershire.
1. Deerhurst is the smallest village and has 2 Saxon Chapels!
2. Apperley is the largest village with a nucleus of houses with a fork in the road surrounding a Village Green and Pond in front of Apperley Church.
3. Deerhurst Walton is situated on a ridge with a single road passing through it.
The history in this parish is endless. We are so lucky to have 2 Saxon Churches in Deerhurst , 1 with a priory called St. Mary`s, 1 that`s a chapel called Oddas Chapel and 2 lovely red bricked victorian churches in Apperley- 1 Church of England -Holy Trinity and 1 Methodist. We have 1 manor house called Wightfield and a Court called Apperley Court. In Deerhurst Walton we have a Pigeon Coop , and a Manor House called Manor Farm, and in all 3 villages there is a wealth of black and white timbered framed cottages and red bricked victorian cottages the clay bricks sourced from the River Severn.
To top it all an array of ancient pathways linking all of these historic features make them all accessible for us all to enjoy. |
