There are many long standing families that used to live here but mostly they have either moved away or passed on.

Notable names are -

DIPPER

This family lived in Green Farm ( see dwellings) and they are seen above in the heading of this page. Alf Dipper who played
cricket for England is second from the right.
The family have always been farmers in this area and they owned much land in this parish including "Homeground, Homestead,
Little Orchard, The Hill, Top Piece, Coal House Meadow, and Stank Meadow.
In 2010 we performed a puppet play in the village based on a character that lived in Green Farm. It was called "Farmer Dipper and the Red Tomatoes."

FLUCK

The Fluck family have lived here since Henry VIIIs time  and held nearly the same social position - a race of yeomans or small landowners - ,cultivating their own estate in the parish. The name has been spelt so many different ways including Flooke Floke Flek and Fflouke. In Apperley and Wightfield in 1608 it  is noted that William Flucke husbandman was a cavalier and Giles Ffluck was a musketeer and trained soldier. The headmaster at Deerhurst School (when it was at Deerhurst was called Mr. Fluck (see photo opposite.)

Other families that have lived here for more than a couple of centuries include-

Cassey
Roberts
Eagles
Dunn
Healing
Rhymer
